We started doing a little bit of very basic VB in school back in the day, and I loved it. From that point I started hatching ideas for projects, and if I didn't know how to do something, I'd search it up and learn that way.
Lately I've been creating quite a large project (a game similar to World's Hardest Game), knowing most of the stuff necessary to create it from what I learnt on the web.
The best way for you to learn to code will depend on your learning style. Just get out there and see what's best for you.
