Help with in game score+game mode leader board hacks

So I was wondering if I could do it so i was mucking around in a tdm game to try and hack my in game score and, in turn, give me that score on the tdm leaderboard (just checking, would this concept even work?) and I figured it out...ish.
I can find the address and when I change it, it just reverts back. Ok, I can get past this...I found the address for what writes to it. It was a random number (obviously not but I wasn't going to work out the multiple right there) and increased it x100. Sure enough my score increased (not much but naturally you'd just make the number bigger if you wanted more) but then the game instantly crashed. Is there a way to get this working? I can post the address if that helps? I don't know if it would change between people/games. Anyway, just thought I'd let you guys know so that those who are better than this at me can have a crack. (Or help me do it xD )
