Besides, you assume most of the voters are not people over 50. That is an incorrect assumption. They are the only ones that see voting as something that HAS to be done, unlike us, who cannot be bothered if its raining.
That is why the republicans won this past elections. You even mention touching SS& medicare/medicaid, and the old people in walkers would storm Washington.
Ironically those three programs are socialist in nature. Gotta love the hypocrisy in America. FUCK SOCIALISM, but if you call 911 you expect the fire and police department to show up. You expect free clinics, you expect public house, medicare, medicaid, wellfare, social security. pfft.
