if we go with the whole ranks idea, couldnt you promote ranking with a win?
and also on a gfx forum, they have judges who decided what rank you are by 5 works u submit, then you can get ranked again in 30 days

i like the idea cuz it gives you something to work with

Rankings would need to be separate.
If you win SOTW, your skill is relative only to the skill of those who entered.
If you do well in a challenge presented by one of the more experienced artists here, the skill is relative to OURS.

Classing is a bit of an impracticality until there's a wider range of skill here. Not to mention that there's maybe two people here who would even be considered credible in their opinion of classes.

We should have SOTW Winner ranks for 1 month or so, or designer ranks, or name colors.

I hope I'm one of those two.

I like @Ryan 's idea of the more experienced designers, such as himself taking a more mentor-esque position because that way the less experienced designers, such as myself, have a shot at learning some more about graphic design and also at winning.

We can't be shelling out 10 bucks every week bro. It's just not realistic.
Don't get me wrong, I'm sure we'll throw a random payed comp out there every now and again, like the one I tried kicking off,
But the Sotw really needs to just stay where it's at imo, or figure out a budget prize such as graphic or program related shit.

Sorry for the double post but just wanted to bring up another point about the section.

Just browsing the show-offs section I noticed a few threads where people posted work,
and there are no comments. One of them is like 4 days old.
We gotta stay active in the section and offer cnc,
otherwise people will have no reason to post up their work, and eventually will end up not bothering with the section all together.
Just a little something to think about. Now I'm off to be first poster in these threads!

Having mid-tier members between the beginners and the veterans would solve this problem. They won't be thinking in such a complex manner that they spit out simplicity, but they won't be thinking so simply as to offer bad advice.
This could be a requirement of such a member, integrated with @Ethereal 's idea.
    Just a suggestion.

Of course, vets would offer cnc, just not quite as often. When it's beneficial, I guess...you guys know what I'm saying.

Oh so have a mid-tier member such as chuck and myself on the team, rather than purely veteren designers? Because I also noticed we seem to be getting lots of VERY BASICALLY skilled new visitors to the section.

A lot of the time the highend cnc goes un-appreciated because they don't understand all of the terminonogy. We could actually have a glossary, or dictionary of graphic design terms sticked for all the beginners. I'd be willing to compile such a thread, just give the word.

I'd have nothing against mid-tier level in GFX as long as skills are not determined by number of posts, since my main got banned and I'm stuck with this crap.
