Nope, you feel a quick prick when the needle first goes through your lip, but the most painful part is about thirty minutes after when you try to eat something. The stud they use is slight longer with a slightly larger backplate to accomodate the swelling, so it hurts like a bitch when you accidentally bite down on the back of it. When I first got my lip pierced, it hurt for a week and then was just sore when I moved it too much, though now when I got my most recent one (two months ago) I didn't feel anything after two days. Then again, I've pierced my lip seven times now It's not a pain really, more like it surprises you. You expect it to hurt a LOT more than it does.

Nah, I've been piercing myself since I was thirteen. It's just fun, anyways if I ever do want to remove them I don't have any massive gauges and the holes will close.
