By then you will have new hardware to consider as well. Just remember that, the newer stuff will be intoxicating but at a much steeper price. This is why I prefer AMD. I pay an i5 price but I can set up my hardware to i7 specifications (excluding hyper threading, but with 8 cores and 32 gb of RAM I should not need to worry).

Hell if you have enough money, take a look into Xeon processors.

Your budget is not low. I still suggest the i7 to be honest, you have more than enough to get the mid-tier i7 (better than a high0tier i5) and still have more than enough left over for 16 gb RAM 1 TB and a good gfx card.

Adding up to everything else, an i7 would just make it a $1400+ budget. This is just for parts, I'd end up spending another $200-$300 for headphones, mouse, keyboard, and a decent sized monitor.

What site are you using? Here's what I mocked up at TigerDirect. Couldn't find any decent low latency RAM, and the pricing isn't that good but if you shop around it will save more $

Oh, and since im typing anyway
GTX 680 as a graphics card, GTX 690 is 2x the price, and not even THAT much better

2x 680 maximum performance

I wouldn't start shopping prices until you are absolutely ready to buy it. I've done that in the past and got pretty pissed when the prices went up. When you are ready to buy I'll help you find the best prices possible for each part. You could probably save $100-200.
