Plus, there's also the fact that LoL makes it easier for players who are new to MOBAs to get used to the game.

Dota 2 is more for people who already know how to play MOBAs. Plus, the LoL story is also cooler.

I play both games including one called HoN, I find that LoL is the easier out of the two as in the competitive games modes, you lose gold for dieing in Dota2 and HoN. Also there is pulling a lane and denies in creeps so unless you last hit well you can out level the opponent that are in the same lane as you. There is a lot more mechanics behind Dota and HoN to there is in LoL. So I think that both games has their perks.
