I'm currently using an HP (not of that quality, however), and it's been keeping me alive for the past two years. I kicked and spilled stuff on her but she still lives and breathes the same

Maybe some people travel alot? I could think of hundreds of reasons why a laptop is more useful, but for a desktop too. And don't say get a mini-itx. It's not the same.
