Is it a coinicidence that all Sony phones are having the same problems? I had this problem as well. I had a Sony Xperia 3 years ago , and since I bought it it had problems all the freaking time(including yours).
So I would suggest you not to buy Sony phones again.. In todays world , Samsung and iPhone is the way to go.
Regarding the price, I think its a good one , since the usb part has a price, and also it is not easy to solder the part in the circuit. Not everone can do it. It needs precision. What I would do if I was in your shoes? Sell your Sony phone and go for a good Samsung/iPhone, if you are using a phone that much and you do care about it. Well if you dont, repairing is ok.
I've been using this specific Sony phone for 8 months and haven't had any issues with charging 'til now, I would change the phone if it wasn't under the monthly fee, I would love to have a iPhone but for me its quite bit more expensive ('course my current phone is like 340 Euros worth).
Not a huge fan of apple, maybe its because I've never used it, and also about Samsung, haven't used that either so its kind of no-no-yes at the moment, I only use my phone to take pictures, snapchat with a couple of friends, other than that, I don't care about it as much, I just want it to charge.

If you feel like this is to expensive, you could get the tools to fix this yourself for a relevantly cheap price. 1000+ tutorials on youtube on how to fix phones etc. These people might work a few hours on the phone. I don't feel like 35 euro is too much.
I mean just be happy it isn't an apple product that you have to send in for repairs. Getting Apple to repair your iDevice is super expensive.
