struggling with car insurance UK,

bare with me this is my first post(hopefully first of many)
anyway as the title says Im having trouble with car insurance, i don't know how it works in other countries but in the uk its a complete pain in the ass, I'm getting quoted £3000 for my first year insurance on a crappy car,
how much was your first year insurance?
And anyone know of anyway to get cheaper,

Get put on your parents insurance policy if you're possible. They do deductions for grade/safe driving and stuff, call them and ask about it, no way you should be paying anywhere near that much.

If you're a teenager, that's why.
Insurance rates are higher for teens, because statistically they're a higher liability.
Can't speak as to why it would be that high, but it'd definitely be a contributing factor.

Well £3000 is with my parents on my policy too, and the fact that my dad has a company car I can't get added to his, and I think it's really high as I live in a bad area where crash for cash is the norm, oh well guess I'm gonna have to wait it out,

The insurance fee depends on a lot of things: gender (women pay less than men because generally they have less accidents), age, insurance record, etc.
Like arun said, talk to your parents about this. They will likely make the insurance in their behalf, to cut down some expenses (like chopping down +300€ per year).
In Portugal, the insurance fees are nowhere near that high, but it depends on the type of insurance you are conducting.

You also want the bare minimum insurance policy, make sure they aren't signing you up for 1m cash outs and a bunch of unnecessary shit.
