Don't follow your passion, but take your passion with you, wherever you go.
I'm at the point where I need to start seriously considering career options and acting has always been one of my most favored ideas. I've got really good communication skills in real life, like I'm not very smart in academics, im not stupid either, but I really really like acting. But I need to be realistic for being an asian american, I'm not sure how successful I can potentially be compared to any other ethnicity in the american acting industry. What would you guys think? Serious pleaseeeee.

You most likely won't go far. I lived in LA for three years and I saw so many people have a dream of becoming a star (Mostly foreigners that moved to america to act) and it's honestly sad hearing them say "I am going to be a movie star" when we all know it won't happen.... If you want to do that go for it but don't have the mind set that you are going to be the next Liam Nesson or Will Ferrel just because you think you can act well. The truth hurts, but for all you know you could be a good actor and go far.
High risk high reward
are you good looking or funny?

If you didn't understand what I said, don't go into acting because it's your passion, get a full time job somewhere else, and act on the side.

I'm actually looking at some posts like "You wont go far" . No one knows. Dreaming big is always good. I guess he already knows that the risk is high. Have you ever thought why some people are stars now? Because the most important thing they did NOT do was thinking like some of you think in here. I am not saying that there is no talent involved, you need talent and various other things in acting, but doing what you actually love in life will get you satisfied. I am not saying that you will be successful ( or you may be ) , but it would be better IMO , failing in something that you really liked, rather than doing something that you struggle to do and you dont really like it. Its all on personal preference. Some people like slavery, thats how I would call it. They like working for hours on a job they dont really like and they do it just for the money. Then comes depression, drinking and drugs. In the end, who knows, you may be not be an actor, but you may be something similar like a director by making friendships and connections.
Anyways, I really wish you good luck dude, in whatever you manage to do. If I was you, I would go for it.

Thanks m8's
I wouldn't do it, not because you won't be successful. But because you'll always be a C level star, downgraded to token Asian roles and secondary roles. And that's only if you can stereotype well. (Flashy Fighter / Triad boss / etc)
If it's your passion, then it's up in the air.
