It's just fun :P
Especially when you fix something on a private server that prod hasn't even fixed, the feeling is 1337 m9.
It's a fun way to learn how to code c#, it's how I learned what I know atm, I started running private servers with no knowledge of SQL and C# and AS3, now I know a little bit of sql and as3 and a decent amount of c#, enough to make some useful programs not-rotmg-related and enough to run a private server for a while with a lot of packed features.
Plus being able to basically play the same exact game as rotmg prod, but with any feature you want to add/remove/edit is fun. Also if you're bad at prod and never had that certain UT you've always wanted to use, or never had a divine pet, that could be a reason to run one I guess, so you can get the feel.
