Just wanted to share, I got this from somewhere else. Credits to that guy

This tip reduces battery and data consumption.
Pokemon Go uses Google Maps, so if you go into your google maps app, download your local map offline and you can play Pokemon Go without wifi/data. Tell me if it works for you!

No, you still use data. You just don't download the map around you (so it's a lot less).
