Was there really a problem with the coach interacting with the players during the game????
I view them as a 6th player, someone who could be encouraging the players

Just read the article and it made some valid points, that the coach technically is a sixth player.
What do you think about this new ruling?

Yeh, the coaches were keeping track of the enemy teams economy, round plays and such to kind of get a general feel of when they will do something and that's normally down to the players themselves. Some coaches might be better at this and then provide a "sixth" player form into the actual rounds.

I guess restricting communication is good. However, I feel like during the buy time, the coach should be able to help build a strat for the round. Obviously, an official will need to be with the coach to ensure they don't tell the players anything that they aren't meant to (otherwise consequences will follow)

The thing is about communicating during buy time the coach could easily tell them how the enemies economy is working. Buying SMG's to counter pistols or full buy (Not directly saying it, but by buying SMGs its obviously an eco and full buy is matching their buy). As for strats thats why they practice scrimming, it's up to them to decide when to put those strategies into play because before it was most likely the coach who made these calls.
