Honestly the Pokemon Go Hype died down WAYYY to quickly. No more Youtube videos on it anymore (not a lot at least), no Pokemon Go account giveaways, nothing. I'm pretty sure Nintendo kidna lost money than how much they needed to host servers and make the game itself

Actually, they're still developing and reaping in quite a bit of money each day, they could wipe their ass with your entire income times tenfold.
There are no giveaways because a bunch of accounts get banned as they're implementing new anti cheating gradually.
Botting is getting more difficult it seems and the need of buying proxies etc to do this shit for something ANYONE can do, is simply not profitable.
More or less you can just download a bot, enter information, start and then you can level quickly without even lifting your finger.

Short, it's alive, just not profitable to sell nor bother giving away.

I've heard people say that for nearly every game. The goal of a game is to be entertaining. People played it because of the huge amount of hype, especially on social media where you couldn't escape seeing things about it.

it died when they got too lazy to add new content, but not lazy enough to ban 95% of the playerbase.

Dead since the beginning, after all pokemaps were shutdown, it died even more and now it's like slowly crumbling to it's own death.
