Depends on what u wanna make
I you wanna build something for example an vr device like an oculus you dont have to show the shematics or something just point out what it should be at the end how you wanna realize it and that should be enough if its an good idea
Lets say you wanna create google then it would not be very smart to try it with kickstarter then you just should be the first who makes it

Also here in germany patents are not this expensive you just go to a patent office costs for simple patents are at 50€ if you wanna patent an fusion reactor you will pay some more for sure

Im not even sure if there is an way how you can patent websites Youtube can copyright his name, signs look and everything but there will be always other platforms
