Reverse engineering Java applications compiled into bytecode is easy. It's literally decompilable into it's native language. With variable names etc. If it's compiled into object code executed directly from the processor, independent of the JVM, then it's a whole other story.

Mind you, java can be obfuscated. And the above only applies if the java application has been compiled into bytecode. If it's been compiled into objectcode(which won't require the JVM to interpret the bytecode) then it can only be reinterpreted into assembly(that of the instruction-set it was compiled for).
