I was at my house the other day when my mom came in and said "did you hear about what they were doing at utsa today?!"

No, i didn't, i was going to my classes like a normal student. Anyway, apperantly the Atheist league or w/e was trading playboy for bibles.

So i looked up why they were doing it and apperantly their reasoning was the bible had stories about mistreated women, so does porn, we'll trade you. Oh and that there was pornagraphic content.

Now I don't give a shit about what the bible had to say, i was offended by the porn mistreats women part. Thats bullshit.

Ok anyway, I also wondered what they hoped to accomplish...its not like taking away a bible would make any real difference. And certainly their point in itself was silly, i mean anyone knows that text-porn and picture-porn are totally different things.

I would disagree, I know some very intelligent Christians,
"Smart people believe weird things because they are skilled at defending beliefs they arrived at for non-smart reasons". The reason some intelligent people can defend silly beliefs is because they compartmentalize their beliefs from their rational analysis. A good example is Francis Collins, head of the Human Genome Project. He's a very intelligent man, he just believes that if he believes in Jesus he'll go to heaven, of course he's not a fundamentalists, he supports evolutionary theory and is quoted to have called Intelligent Design: "just ludicrous." None of us are perfectly rational, none of us hold beliefs that are all true. All we can hope is that we manage to believe less false things and accept more true things.

Lastly, porn generally doesn't have a moral\theme behind it. While the stories in the bible do(however fucked up they may be).

Either way, I doubt any of us have actually read the damn thing, so who are we to make arguments based off of another's biased opinion towards the bible.

I've gone through the bible twice, since I've become an atheist I've only cracked it open to find verses that I can use to support my case.
