Why is my .gif avatar still?

I'm trying to set the following as my avatar:
[IMG]https://fat.gfyca*****m/BigJauntyCattle.gif[/IMG]

However no matter how many times I try reuploading or recompiling, the gif will not play or loop. Am I missing something here?

The second one shouldn't be cropped at all.
