Why the Direwolves turned away when they saw Arya?
Because Arya is dead RIP! She got killed by this chick (aka the waif):


In one of the episodes when the waif (that chick) tries to kill Arya, the scene goes black and you see Arya walking out (like she won the fight). However, the waif stole Arya's face and made it look like the waif is the one who died.

Stupid. She wouldn't have known the name or recognized her Direwolf(Nymeria). Nymeria turned away because Arya asked to come home with her, meaning the North. Nymeria turned away because North isn't the place to be due to the White Walkers being there and coming South.

EDIT: Even in the first episode the direwolfs are heading South because winter was coming.

I am sorry but this is one of the dumbest theories I've ever heard, first off, how would The Waif know about the direwolf's name? only the Stark family know their names, second, that conversation between her and Sansa in the crypt, and her desire to duel Brienne, she doesn't mention her to anyone, so nope.

Lastly, What would be the fucking point? let's assume that what you say is true, and that The Waif has killed Arya and taken her face... what happens now? nothing, you can't write a good ending for this

Gotta agree with Cursed on this one tho. Unless by some weird chance she knew Nymeria's name, I don't think it's possible.
