If buying on amazon look at the case and see what other people purchases with that item, for example like

Check out PC part picker, you can then use any external site to order the parts once you know
If you want a generic way there are many pc building tutorials of various price ranges available on youtube. However if you are starting a build from scratch, always identify what gpu and case you want first, then cpu, motherboard, ram, ssd, fans, then psu etc - Easiest way to ensure compatibility is maintained. Also I would recommend ordering off amazon as they have a simple and quick return process therefore if something doesn't work simply send it back!
Hope this helps

Assemble using ************ then confirm your complete build with knowledgable folks to confirm all will work together.
For compability you should be using PC part picker, find it in your search engine. I use it and can personally recommend it. I build PCs for a living and can say that I never had an issue with it, other than the prices being slightly off.
Also make sure that the case you select is large enough for your build if you're thinking of SLI or e-ATX, you'd definitely want a full tower. Always double check dimensions of case, GPU(s) and CPU cooler.

Read online,if cpu is am3 you need am3 motherboard, if intel, check for same numbers too, GPU doesnt matter will fit anywhere. ram check too which ram motherboard supports, ddr3 ddr4 ddr5 so you knlow which ram to add, thats pretty much all.
