January 23rd he broke the previous record of 4.03m (held by Kendrick Lamar's Humble) with 4.32m

January 24th this record was broken again with ~4.71m (thanks to /u/6hampagnepapi)

January 25th God's Plan did ~4.74m streams in the US alone, 8.5m globally (which is up from the 24th's 7.4m globally) making it three days of record breaking

So he broke Kendrick Lamar's record and then broke his own record back to back.
I also read he broke the global record which Taylor Swift who had 8m and he got 8.5m.

I think the biggest takeaway from this is that despite no hype/no promo Drake manages to break records.

I see that a lot of people actually like Diplomatic Immunity more than God's Plan but the thing is God's Plan has more mainstream appeal. Further, the line "She say do you love me and I say 'only parly', I only love my bed, my mama I'm sorry" is a very iconic line that a lot of people believe is what's driving this song's success.
