Better RotMG Ping Checker - AWS EC2 Ping API

I was bored and the ping checker on here is slower than watching paint dry. Here's one that will complete all pings in 8-10 seconds and tell you your best server.

Hey. Tried it right now and it doesn't work. Perhaps has to do with the hotfix done a couple of hours ago? Then again a server ping shouldn't have anything to do with in-game updates, right?

Make sure you have Java 8+ installed and run, it from the command line. Unlike windows executables they will not automatically open a display window as all information printed in the JVM by System.out.println() will get printed to your OS standard output (command prompt/terminal). Aka you can’t just double click it, it will run in the background and you won’t see info. Make sure you can execute java -version (double dash? Not at my computer rn) then run java -jar .\RotMGPingChecker.jar

I’m sick today and probably won’t be able to check if it’s actuakly broken tonight. Sorry

Hey! I tested it again, and voila, it works out just fine. I don't know why but earlier it showed only the pinging of a single server (EUSW) and it took 9280324 ms. But it worked just fine now, so don't bother checking anything. Get well soon!

Also, could you share the code? I tinkered around with Java a year back and wanted to read some code of a game that means something to me and learn something too.

Very much could have been the AWS EC2 ping api down for some reason causing a timeout and or long runtimes, or your own internet connection.
Glad you got it working though. I did mean to update this as i realized i was hitting the ping API twice doing to creating a method to ping a server region and return an int of ping time in ms

How to fix this?

Need to execute java -jar from the directory you downloaded the jar in. Aka if the file is in /downloads/rotmg,
Navigate there, shift right click open command window there then execute. If you put java -jar .\R and press tab cmd will auto fill files in that dir

If you type dir (ls) on Mac/Linux and you don’t see the ping checker jar you aren’t in the right placd
