    Acer laptop not starting properly

So recently I bought an acer laptop, It was working then stopped due to the hard drive coming out on its own, So I opened it up to find he had cello taped the hard drive down and it was a Toshiba hard drive, So I replaced it with an old acer one. Then when booting up it went into repair mode so I waited and it said something like it couldn’t repair, So when turning back on the laptop I get a black screen with “Acer” in the middle and “F2” and “F12 Boot menu”

Then when I leave it on for 5 minutes it comes up “A disk read error occurred. Press Ctrl+Alt+del to restart.

And it repeats the same process.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Doesn't the Toshiba drive work anymore even though it came out on its own? If it still works you can maybe recheck the cables etc with the old Toshiba Disk. If you know the Toshiba drive doesn't work then try to check the SATA cables on your new drive? Also try to check your RAM, this can also make this error appear. If none of those things works try to boot into the bios and look if your drive is detected. If it is try reinstalling Windows with a clean install?

Ok first off- did you format the disk before installing it cause if its got an old operating system on it and all the space is already claimed. Also are you trying to use an operating system disk when you start it and selecting boot from cd so you can format and re-partition it?

Honestly this thread makes it look like you took one drive out plugged the other in and just turned on the computer.... There is a lot more to it than that..

    1-Swap drives
    2-Insert operating system installation disk
    3-Start PC
    4-Press F12
    5-Select Boot from CD
    6-Format the hard drive
7-Allocate space for OS (should be automatic)
    8-Install the operating system (OS)
    9-Install hardware drivers
    10- enjoy
