Let me just preface this by saying I don't advocate banning guns, which is your default assumption on what everyone here thinks.

I've come to terms with the ideas you brought up about how guns are good to defend the people's rights against the state and the general benefits of being able to defend yourself in the minutes it takes for police to get to your home (or +20 mins if you live in the middle of nowhere) or to defend yourself in the streets at night where people are trying to find easy prey and how there is so much in circulation that banning them seems retarded.

The beef I have with guns is jut how it is treated as a right and as the only form of defense.

You have the right to bear arms unless you prove you're not supposed to have a gun. I see guns as a responsibility that you have to consistently prove you can handle. I don't like the fact that just about anyone can get guns besides the obvious criminal-record-bearing people. Current and former Law Enforcement and Soldiers (and only if they have a consistently proven psychological stability) are the only people I can ever trust with guns.

Any of the randos I see in a mall or a store or on the streets with a Conceal and Carry just looks like a potential security threat. Any social gathering is threatened with the possibility that some of the trigger-happy or reckless guys hears a loud sound and next I know my legs have been shot on accident. Or maybe someone with an increasingly shitty life just loses it and if I'm the first randomly picked then I'm fucked. Or maybe in a dangerous scenario like a mass shooting the guy with the Concealed and Carry who is supposed to neutralize the threat or restrict movement of the threat could end up mistaking innocents for the threat and gun them down in the heat of the moment. The police could also confuse the concealed carry guy with the mass shooter and kill them, confirm the shooter is dead, and then the real shooter comes out of nowhere fucking their shit up.
Then there's the reckless people whose kids accidentally get a gun and kills someone or who "lose" it and next ting you know its in the hands of a gang.

A police officer or soldier whose has experience with guns and who prove they are stable and responsible would be the only kind of people I think wouldn't get into these kind of potential dangers.

My ideal scenario would be you become a police officer or soldier, you get some minimum experience, you apply for getting a firearm, you prove you don't have shit like PTSD and that you aren't joining ISIS or the KKK or anything like that, then you get a license to buy whatever firearm you want, you go the the gov office and get the gun a license plate and tracking device, and the gov constantly keeps record of where you keep the thing and how your life is doing to make sure you aren't reckless with it and that you aren't going to go crazy and kill someone.

Besides, concealed knives function as an effective alternative to firearms that could be used in close-quarters defense and is infinitely harder to accidentally injure or kill someone with than a Concealed Carry. So all the randos who need a firearm would be better imo with a concealed knife. If anyone with a knife does go crazy and kill, they won't be good at long distance killing and once police get there they move they dunn.

A shield is also better imo than a gun
