The fundamentals of programming are all the same. Algorithms, Data Structures, OOP, TDD, etc is all fundamental to programming. The language is just a tool, whether you learn it in Java, C, C++, C#, Python, or any of the other number of programming languages out there. Instead of focusing on a language to learn, learn the fundamentals first. Once you do it will be easy to pick up a programming language.

i absolutely agree, however, switching from C++ to another language is far easier than the other way around. e.g i know a few java developers who tried learning C++ and found it too unforgiving!

Some parts of the US have programming jobs the majority of which prefer Microsoft C#, Java, and Python, maybe PHP. In that order. C++ may be listed to filter out job applicants who are not hardcore enough. The paradigm in most IT departments is that software development should not be too technical. It should be very easy to find replacement programmers.

Yes, you will be able to find a good job. But I think the trend now is more on backend development and full stack. I would suggest learning Golang.

You definitely will. This is because of two things:

    1. Since C++11, the language is progressing very fast and is up-to-date now.

    2. CPU speed is no more growing fast so the main way to get more speed is to use more fast language.

You can also see a speech "C++: the beast is back!".

C++ is the hardest language in my opinion, but its worth the struggle if you enjoy programming.

I advise you to learn languages in school. Pupils should learn programming in early odes.
