China becomes the first country to land a spacecraft on the far side of the moon
On January 3rd China managed to do what no other Nation before them has accomplished. Landing a probe on the far side of the moon that never faces earth due to tidal locking. Tidal locking means that the rotation of the moon around its own axis takes the same amount of time as a rotation around the earth. That's why it is always the same side of the moon facing earth.
They landed the unmanned "Chang'e-4" probe successfully in the South Pole-Aitken Basin the oldest and deepest crater on the surface of the moon.
The probe has got instruments to analyze the unexplored region of the Basin and it also brought a sealed container with biological experiments.
With the instruments the goal is to take detailed experiments of the yet unknown terrain and to explore the lesser known side. This has also importance for radio astronomy due to it never facing earth there's no "pollution" from human made light. That makes it a perfect spot for a telescope to catch signals coming from space.
Maybe even more important is the biological experiment the probe brought. In the sealed container are six live species from earth: cotton, rapeseed, potato, fruit fly, yeast and arabidopsis (a flowering plant). A miniature camera will image any growth. If the eggs hatch, the larvae would produce carbon dioxide, while the germinated plants would release oxygen through photosynthesis. It is hoped that together, the plants and silkworms can establish a simple synergy within the container.
The Population Problem!
All are aware of the epidemic that is the high increase in global population. China, for one country, decided to introduce the one child policy. But, China relaxed its one-child policy in 2015 to combat an ageing population. China's population will peak in the year 2029 at 1.44 billion before going down a steep decline which is considered as "unstoppable" by a government report. The mostly elderly Chinese population is said to have a very unfavorable social and economic consequence. The study also predicted a rise in the proportion of non-working people like the elderly and children. A higher dependents and lesser number of actual labor force will create many problems for the world's most populous country. While India, second most populated country has still not put a check on the over population problem. India has a high number of young work force. Hence, putting a similar "one child policy" will not affect India's overall development as an upcoming superpower. While, certain democratic hurdles, namely religious beliefs of certain groups such as Muslims, which demand the freedom to have multiple children would soon put a stop to any possible prospects of a one child policy in India. It would be a challenge to control the overpopulation for India. Two countries, adjacent to each other, one with mostly elderly population and one with young workforce, waiting to emerge from the depths. Only time will tell. Great leaders need to come up and take steps to take the world towards a more sustainable state. What are your views? How would you tackle this problem? Comment below. Hip-hop and gaming DON'T MIX.
Soulja Boy - the famous rapper known for his "Crank That" hit - decided to step forward in the gaming scene by creating his own bootleg video game console. The two products launched by him were called SouljaGame Console and SouljaGame Handheld. The SouljaGame Console is advertised as running "PS/NEOGEO/PC/SEGA/GBA/NES Video Games" and coming with 800 preinstalled games. Meanwhile, the SouljaGame Handheld says it supports "Switch/3DS/Vita/NEOGEO/GBC/Gameboy/GBA" and comes with 3,000 built-in games. The issue is that his console is only an emulator for the actual games hence the product was taken down legally after big companies like Sony and Microsoft didn't agree with his actions. Even though there are a lot cheaper alternatives from chinese makers for only $30-50 for this kind of consoles, Soulja flexed his earnings on Twitter saying he made $250.000 in the first 24h since he launched his product. It's well appreciated that he tries to create a good life for himself with these start-ups, but let's hope his next attempts will be fully legal. He won't stop here as in February he is expected to launch his own e-sports team featuring Fortnite, Overwatch, CSGO and Call Of Duty teams.
Apple's Failure to innovate plunges stocks by 8%
Apple's iPhone XS has been a mediocre release to say the least worldwide but no where as much as china as sales sharply drop costing to the tune of $84bn in revenue, Tim Cook details in a letter to investors that the new iPhone XS was not as popular as predicted in Chinese markets blaming lack luster sales and Trumps trade war with China. These stock drops may not seen like bad news but as most analysts point out this caused ripples in the tech community Apples XR the cheapest model released from its new lineup retailed $949 this compared to other providers like Huawei release competing models at half the price its not a trade war that caused these massive sales drops its better and cheaper competition squeezing apple out of one of its largest markets.
Twitch Re-bans Fortnite Streamer Who Assaulted Pregnant Wife During Stream
Many took to Twitter to report Luke Munday, a.k.a "MrDeadMoth" on Twitch, who allegedly assaulted his wife who was pregnant, in front of their two daughters (aged three and 20 months), who are heard screaming in the background during the live stream. The streamer was allowed to return on the platform on 30th December, and many people were outraged at Twitch to have let him rejoin even though Twitch's Policy states it "takes acts and threats of violence seriously and these are considered zero-tolerance violations" and "all accounts associated with such activities will be indefinitely suspended".
On January 4th, Munday's account was re-banned, his channel brought offline, his VODs taken down, after thousands complained their concern on Twitter, disappointed by Twitch over MrDeadMoth's return and wanting his account officially banned. Twitch is known to not say anything regarding bans, other than vague comments on its policies. Munday will be facing common assault charges at an Australian court later this month.
