Why is the government and law makers so focused on fighting piracy right now?

I follow several piracy news and its amazing how much money, time, and resources several countries and agencies will put forth into fighting piracy when there are actual issues to go mess with. And the messed up thing is that these laws don't do a damn thing to prevent piracy. Only those fake ass pirates will be prevented.

1) Piracy pretty much means getting a " thing " for free because a person decided to distribute it.
2) Piracy removes sales, as well as taxable income from the retailer to the Local/Federal Government.
3) To a politician in office, staying in office is really what matters. For the most part of course. How do you stay in office?
4) You make sure the big corporations who are lobbying/paying you make MORE MONEY.

Actually many studies have been done on the sales removing and people who are willing to wait weeks if not months will wait regardless. So piracy doesn't really effect sales, actualy it might do the opposite with invasive drm. but everything else I do agree with but I guess its a image game with politicians.
