College student wants to be a programmer

In my 1st year of Jr. College. id like to be a programmer of some sort. Not a hacker. What languages should I focus on? My dad told me be careful in my choices.. i guess he learned FORTRAN back in the 80s and never could find a job.

I'd say c is a great language to start off with. After learning c, I personally have never used it for personal projects, but it made me understand other languages better.

If you are engineering student(Mechanical, electrical, Aeronautical) I would suggest to start with python or matlab
Or start with C,C++ or Java (Learning this could take time but if you learn other languages will be easy)

When you learn, try to implement it in simple projects..hit me up if you need any help

This is pretty solid advice. The highest paid jobs in programming where I live are often Python or Java. Currently I'm working for a company that mainly uses PHP, it's good but I would advice you to look towards other languages than PHP.

Question is that if you even would like this. Do you want to work for them for X amount of years. What if, you discovered that you don't like it at all after a year? What do you want to do?

depends on what you are gonna do. i would suggest starting with python if you are totally new or java/c# if you know how algorithms work

If you really want to know a lot about computers and how the computer interprets your programs, I'd learn C or C++. It's more effort to learn and you have to be more conscious when writing it, but you'll learn how to write good programs. If you want to just learn general programming for web development or data science, I'd maybe look into Python.

IMO the more languages you know, the easier learning other languages get. You start to develop logic on how to approach certain problems. When you learn other languages, the logic is the same. Syntax is different. Build a toolbox to do one problem, but with multiple ways of doing it.

Python is the easiest one IMO. With machine learning, data science, neural networks and all of that good stuff, it's in demand. Look into that stuff.
It's also good to know web development stuff. Frontend, and backend. Python is backend. There are many other languages in this category. HTML, CSS, Javascript for the frontend.

I think PHP and Python are best for start in programming. There are many online tutorials about these languages. But also you can ask for help at https://pro-papers.com/problem-solution-essay-writing. It's really useful service. PS you have to lear a lot if you want to be a real professional.
