I'd say c is a great language to start off with. After learning c, I personally have never used it for personal projects, but it made me understand other languages better.
In my 1st year of Jr. College. id like to be a programmer of some sort. Not a hacker. What languages should I focus on? My dad told me be careful in my choices.. i guess he learned FORTRAN back in the 80s and never could find a job.
If you are engineering student(Mechanical, electrical, Aeronautical) I would suggest to start with python or matlab
Or start with C,C++ or Java (Learning this could take time but if you learn other languages will be easy)
When you learn, try to implement it in simple projects..hit me up if you need any help

tbh fuck programming. just use online code generators hahahha like a true hacker

Honestly coming from a guy who took the programming classes in college. drop out.. It's useless if you are trying to learn programming the best thing to do is use khans acadamy to help it is worth it.
I appreciate all the constructive advice maybe i should rethink this. My dad was pushing me towards INFOSEC I guess homeland security will pay for me to go to Arizona State as long as i agree to work for them for X amount of years
depends on what you are gonna do. i would suggest starting with python if you are totally new or java/c# if you know how algorithms work
If you really want to know a lot about computers and how the computer interprets your programs, I'd learn C or C++. It's more effort to learn and you have to be more conscious when writing it, but you'll learn how to write good programs. If you want to just learn general programming for web development or data science, I'd maybe look into Python.
IMO the more languages you know, the easier learning other languages get. You start to develop logic on how to approach certain problems. When you learn other languages, the logic is the same. Syntax is different. Build a toolbox to do one problem, but with multiple ways of doing it.
Python is the easiest one IMO. With machine learning, data science, neural networks and all of that good stuff, it's in demand. Look into that stuff.
It's also good to know web development stuff. Frontend, and backend. Python is backend. There are many other languages in this category. HTML, CSS, Javascript for the frontend.

I can suggest to you c# or java to understand the basic knowledge. If you know one of these then you can understand any other.
