    Question Getting into Coding.

    Hi,

So I am in my last year of College. I always been passionate about App developments/ Web development/Coding.
But I never had the time. To keep it simple I have zero experience in coding and stuff. And I want to get into it in my free time.

But I don't know where to start or how to start ?
Hopefully you guys can help me out, is there any sites you guys used to get into coding and learn from it?
Which website/app do you guys recommend me ?
Also with which Language should I start ?

I would prefer something where I could watch but on the same time also to be able to read the steps with screens and stuff.

    Thank you

It all depends on what you want to do. There are a LOT of coding languages. A lot of different languages serve different purposes. I guess learning HTML or PHP would be rather simple to learn through youtube, but if you want to learn C++ or Java a book can do wonders as well.

What is your objective to reach with your future coding skills?

Really depends on what you want to achieve, I agree that the books can do wonders. The ones I read was so helpful more so than youtube, just for the fact it was easy to refer back to and explained in great detail.
Sorry for my grammar and spelling cant be bothered to proof read :3

My main goal atm is to understand the fundamentals of coding.

If you're interested in backend: php and javascript.

Yeah it seems like Javascript or php is the way to go. You can find a lot of tutorials online but remember that buying a book is also worth the money.

Start with HTML its limits will lead you to Learning CSS , then Javascript, and then PHP. Once you have those up your sleeve . You may stick there or go after some other languages do to the limits of what you know already While having a keen eye of whats in demand. The journey of a thousand Miles starts with the first step. make sure you take that first step. Good Luck !

from my experience, anyone who has mastered or managed to grasp C and C++ will find all other languages easy to pick up..

to begin with the basics are pretty straight forward, however, there's a steep learning curve once you encounter topics such as memory allocation/deallocations, pointers (pointers to pointers and pointers to pointers to pointers... and so on...), fully understanding stack and heap, scoping/namespace (what's really happening on the stack at runtime?), later there's the powerful OOPs concepts and STL!!

for a beginner, there's a LOT of work and it can take months to become comfortable, but persistence is the key here - trust me, the rewards are well worth it!

what @aarbend said. but really, last year of college? you should have at least built up a portfolio by now, something small but hey, anyone can pick up easy shit anywhere. for reflection, i started my computer science 3 years ago and im not gonna lie, my first was python, really easy to understand how data is parsed. but really you must know what you really are trying to do, anything in gaming could be c++ heavy, or if mobile dev, i am unknown to it but java would help. javascript for web i heard is super flexible when combined with ruby and python and some php, maybe a lot of php. it is all up to u. YOU NEED TO TAKE THE TIME OUT AND DO IT ALL AAAHHH aka, dont waste time.
