    Do Hackerrank or Leetcode have options to add friends and see their progress. It would be a great alternative to what OP had in mind when setting up this thread!

    If you like the functionality of things, learn python or c#.
    If you like creating art, or making things look good, learn php, html and css.

    Learning JavaScript as the first language is an epic failure. This is very bad language itself, might be even the most bad. And it has very bad environment (you need to run it in browsers which are difficult to debug; or use additional external systems like node.js to make it work without browser).

    If you want smooth and useful experience you can start with Python or LUA. Both languages are simple, powerful and often used in game development.

    megalul: JavaScript is the widest spreaded scripting language in the World. If I add Typescript to it (it compiles to JavaScript, so should be fair) then JavaScript have no competitors.

    well most already replied to you what I would suggest alot of people are stating that PHP is really a dead outdated language, and javascript is the devil so right now the best place to start with be HTML5 & CSS3 WITH BOOTSTRAP 4 for web design and java is always best for app development if your wanting to develop for android.

    Wide spreaded != good.
    JavaScript is the only (!) language for browsers and that's why it is so wide spreaded - just no alternatives.

    TypeScript and new standards make JavaScript programming much better. But you still have to deal with JavaScript so your better should not start it, at least as your first language.

    The main thing is not to bother with a bunch of materials, but to choose one thing. For example, when I studied unity, I gathered a lot of different resources, services and courses. In the end, I was torn between all this. Then I just focused on one of the courses and the process started moving. I advise you to choose the method that suits you the most and only deal with it, then you can change it. The main thing is not to spray your attention.
