Should animal lives matter or only their DNA?

With DNA cloning on the horizon, I don't really think it matters what happens to animals. As long as the required DNA is stored, I think we can repopulate them if needed for the environment. If they are needed for the ecosystem than sure, but if not than why does it matter.

I think you're talking about animals that go extinct because of human activities. The reason we care if animals go extinct isn't out of a fear that "they're gone forever", it's because of many other reasons.

When animals go extinct you lose something called biodiversity. Biodiversity is very important for the health of an ecosystem.
Another reason is that many animals serve a key role for the ecosystem. For example, bees that are going extinct have a significant impact on the crops we depend on...

I encourage you to do a bit of research on why we care if animals go extinct. I assure you there are reasons beyond animal rights or the replaceability of animal life.

just a quick guess but youd need more than 1 dna string of each animal if you want to rebreed them or else youll have highly inbred populations very fast

Yeah I don't know the full details but even if you need more than 1 sting of DNA it is probably possible in the near or distant future. Also to the other questions, I did mean extinction due to human activity. Sure killing of all animals for fun would be pretty stupid but if happens due to our activity than we can always bring them back. Right now its not really easy as putting one dna strand and bringing them back but I think it will be possible in the future. I think we will become desensitized to deaths of a species because of how easy it will be to bring it back. Not that I care myself. This also goes into another topic, but that is a different thread for another day.

... Of course I know that, but I mean if animals go extinct due to human activities than what? Not alot of people give enough shits about animals, I myself don't give any crap about them. So, if DNA replication is easily done in the future, than how much does the life on a individual animal mean? I don't think it matters much. As long as they are able to stay in line with the ecosystem than keep them from going extinct with cloning. Probably not as simple as that in application but only time will tell how it will work out.

Well I guess that would completely depend on your personal beliefs. Even from an ethics point of view, this question is still a very hard one to answer. It would depend on what you think life actually is. Is there such a thing as conscience? Is there inherent value to human life? Does this value also extend to animals?

From what I gather you don't seem to think that animal lives have inherent value and their only purpose is to further humanity. I personally don't agree with this view but that in itself would be way too drawn out of a conversation...

Did you understand the thread bro? I meant their DNA was important to bring that animal back to life. Essentially I think the animals are worthless. If they go extinct than we can bring them back with their DNA strand. It not extremely easy right now but I think it will for sure will be in the future.

All existing, known plants and animals have had their genetic information and samples stored in Cryo tubes in biotechnological plants. One is in greenland I think. Its underground and frozen in case they go extinct or we need more of them. Thats there. I didnt understand the point where you say that they are worthless, but you take their dna..doesnt it show their worth when you safekeep them?

ps, we can already create baby humans and animals from the resources we have right now (test tube babies).
