I didn't even bother watching the last season due to the negative feedback it got; fuck having that ruined for me.

They rushed season 8. That's why it sucked so bad. I didn't mind the "twists" at the end (trying to avoid spoilers) but if season 8 could have had 10 or 12 episodes, it would've been so much better.

Agreed, all the seasons which was based on the books was amazing. One the editors and the lead had to use their own creativity hence the books wasn't completed the series took a huge dip in quality and content. Fast paced lore with plenty of gaps, especially in the last season. The episodes teleported the characters across the land without any lore and content inbetween the great fights. The ending was such a shame to the series, it should be re-done with the books completion.
