Automatic resize of picture that is being uploaded.

So, I've been quite annoyed that when I want to change an avatar, I cannot do it because it does not automatically resize the picture by itself when being uploaded to the site, or does not accept it even when its under the suggested file size, as it's rather annoying when it comes to being forced to use 3rd party website to resize something that a forum in this caliber shouldn't have issues with.

IIRC MPGH used to have this but was overwhelming on the server (? don't quote me).
I'm also pretty sure that it does resize certain things. A member or two reported back a few months ago that they were trying to upload a GIF but because it either exceeded (a) file size or (b) dimensions it would reduce either or and then the GIF would be static and not have the animation.

Besides, why would you want the forum to auto-resize your images anyways? No forum plugin would be advanced enough to resize the image and maintain the proportions of the image which results in stretched images if the ratio isn't there. Thus, if you wanted the forum to resize it appropriately you'd still have to crop the image so that it can reduce to the maximum dimensions your user group has. Does that make sense?

It does make sense, thank you.

But, when I am trying to crop / resize avatars myself, it doesn't usually go the way I'd like it to go, there aren't much of them anyways, but a lot of great looking avatars are higher than the maximum dimensions of my user group, which kind of saddens me, but I'm still a completely noob in cropping and/or resize them to the proper size.
