AOC is way too much of a soft centrist for my liking, but she is correct in the fact that they are in fact concentration camps. Their existence is only to punish and brutalize ethnic minorities, and I wouldn't be surprised if archaeologists in the coming decades end up digging up mass graves in the desert. The conditions in the facilities and treatment of the people there is inhuman to put it lightly. I've also heard of the military having plans to take over their operation, which is simply another step toward obfuscation of their true purpose. When the military takes over anything, they have free reign to make it a blacksite, i.e no outside inspection or knowledge from the public. The Nazis did it well in WW2 in hiding their atrocities from the public, who in most cases had no idea as to the extent or true purpose of the camps, which were deemed at the time to simply be temporary detainment facilities. The demonisation and public gnashing of teeth toward people simply trying to live a better life is disgusting and disheartening. It's a sad state of affairs that 'never again' always ends up being being tomorrow, and that the coddled naivete of the everyman, and the apathetic dissociation of 'nothing we could do' is once again allowing evil to prosper.
I want people to care about things again.
