He's been playing for 2 1/2 years I said in the first post.
If you're going to learn to play. he told me the first thing you should know are your scales. here's some other things you should know
The parts of the guitar
How to maintain a guitar. clean + change strings
How to hold it correctly and strum etc;
How to use an amp correctly + changing settings
How to tune a guitar.

I started playing guitar six years ago at the same time my school made me learn that dreadful plastic tube they call a recorder, and even more pathetically an instrument.
At the same time I took up guitar, played for a year, and started taking violin along with it, which was shortlived at about 3 years in. Thankfully, the majority of string instruments lie on the same premis of finger excercise and flexibility came quickly.
I have taken a year of music history and appreciation, as well as a college music theory class, but that's not necessary, though if you want to advance, it's helpful.
Start of off learning chords for songs for popular mainstream songs, some Tom Petty, Green Day, basic stuff.
Then move into the theory part.
PM me and I'll link you to some good video sites.
