1080 is def worth the extra bit of cash, unless you can save up more and go for a RTX 2070 (there are some used ones out there for $375-$425) which performs slightly better and comes with ray tracing. If you don't want to wait, the 1080 can still run most if not all new games with ease at high-ultra, 60-144fps, specially at 1080p. At 1440p you might need to tweak some settings but can still get plenty of performance.
If you can, make the seller do a 3dmark benchmark and send you the results, or do one with you, to make sure the card is working well.
