Even though I live in Aus, I hadn't really experienced much related to the fires till a couple days ago. I'm pretty close to Melbourne and down here in VIC close to the city we haven't been seeing much until a fire broke out at a reserve a couple kms away, and yesterday, even though I couldn't see the fires, outside pretty much just smelt like smoke and you couldn't see over 500 metres. Insane that it's nothing compared to the massive fires going on in NSW and QLD.
And what's even more nuts is the sheer inaction of our PM and the fact that he was warned about this, did nothing, took a holiday, and tried to do a photo op when he returned instead of making the slightest effort to help.
I was reading somewhere that couple of people who may have caused the fires been caught and sentenced.
"There is a certain ignorance when people like you comment. People can start fires. But the way that these fires are burning and the conditions and how severe they have become is due to climate change."
