COVID-19 and this Fall

Those of you with classes coming fall, what changes is your school making? More and more of my classes in University are switching to online when some will be chaotic to do without actually being there and learning hands-on. It’s also pretty infuriating that my tuition is staying the same paying for the recreation center, sports fees, and basic fees etc. to keep the college running when no one will even be there. And as of today, every student must be tested for COVID before the semester starts. So I guess I should get on that when I won’t step foot on campus anyway.

Most classes for me are online beside labs, labs are the only thing people will have to go on campus for

Just graduated but a friend told me they were going "classes from anywhere". If you choose to come on campus, you're tested on arrival. If your staying in on-campus housing, you must report any symptoms you may have to an online portal on a daily basis. Depending on student risk, you'll be tested on a random basis in that if you interact more due to your roles, youll be tested on a more frequent basis (think students who are teachers assistants and athletes). If you choose to stay home, your classes will be online. Class sizes will also be reduced for social distancing reasons. Facilities will also be cleaned more often. There's also going to be reserved housing for students who may need to be quarantined. If your quarantined, staff will basically bring you any supplies you need like snacks, food, and toilet paper. At dining halls, there will no longer be any self-serving, everything is given to you by staff.

See that just seems like a ridiculous amount of work, at least for my college because each dorm holds about 2000 students. Luckily I live in an apartment but they might as well put everything online. I know some schools are having in-class options, then after thanksgiving break they're going entirely online which makes no sense to me.

Yeah but some students be complaining that an online education is not equitable to an in-person education (there are literal lawsuits over this that are currently circulating through the courts). And I guess it hurts college branding to be an "online college" since historically people were skeptical of online college educations. Don't want to be in the same bin as University of Phoenix.

I agree that it's not the same. I have design and art courses that I would really prefer to have in-person and I do feel that I'm getting ripped off a real education. There are things that just cannot be taught online, it's really just chaos right now.

All of my classes are online but I have to come in for lab

This Fall I will start my Academic minor, but they have sent us an email saying we will have 50% online and 50% offline class. Bc of the last 3 - 4 months being indoors and only having online class, it will be something interesting. Will start Aug 31st.

Sister is going to college this fall, and it makes me nervous as hell that dorms and dining halls are even going to be a thing. Feels like a massive outbreak waiting to happen.
