Wanted to get the founder's edition since I don't really ever overclock my computer so don't really have a need to get after market cards. Wanted to get a new computer build together by the time Cyberpunk gets released on November 19th. I believe AMD is going to be releasing new CPUs in October so I wanted to wait on those too. Basically trying to get a bunch of pieces together so I can put together a new decked out PC in time to play Cyberpunk on my 4k monitor. I don't really mind delaying it since Cyberpunk is a single player game anyways. It's just a bit of an annoyance that there aren't safeguards in place to deal with a high demand release date.

The reason people try to buy these 'on release' is because of the outrageous scalping prices that they're sold for -- not just for a few days after release, but for months. Why? Nvidia for some reason insists on limiting the release of their flagship GPUs.

I'm with you Bernard I had a friend who had been extremely eager to acquire one of these and he said they were sold out before they were even up, almost parallel to your anecdote. Crazy!

Personally i think it's just to get the attention, minimizing supply makes people eager to overpay.

This was just a paper launch. Nvidia is going to release more versions of the 3080 with more vram. All the other cards by MSI, evga, etc. will cost more than they are worth. The Vape looking card from NVidia is actually an excellently cooled card and has super high-quality parts. All of the other 38 he's that you're going to see released are going to have worse cooling and the cost more

Not to mention all the benchmarks are highly individualized and not indicative of real-world performance. This card doesn't have as much of a lead in 1440p, the most popular resolution type. And it's not as good in 4k because there is not enough vram.
