The General capabilities of the FIM-92 'Stinger' is a man-portable, infra-red, homing SAM (Surface-to-Air Missile), that locks onto air targets.

The Stinger is available in multiplayer as a secondary weapon (Launcher section), unlocked at level 30. It can lock onto killstreak vehicles and comes with two missiles. The bad part is that it cannot be fired without a lock-on and thus can not be fired at infantry or locations like the Javelin.

It is probably the best launcher for taking down enemy air support due to having the best tracking system, the fastest missile speed, Taking only one missle to destroy something, and having the most ammunition of any lock-on rocker launcher. It takes only one missile to bring down UAV's, Attack Helicopters, and Harriers. Pave Lows and Chopper Gunners are a harder to destroy, as they release a flare which confuses the missile entirely,missing the target, meaning 2 missiles will usually be nedded. To take down a Pave Low or a Chopper Gunner with one missile, you need to be at a good close range, so that the missile doesn't get enough time to swerve off course and detonate in the air. AC-130s usually take 3 missiles to be destroyed, seeing as though they have two flare payloads. This means the player must find more ammumition (With Scavenger) to fire more rockets, or get a team mate to help.

As it is quite big and placed on the player's back, it can make the player more visible when hiding behind cover. It is not recommended for use with a with a sniper-type class, as it will disrupt the camouflaged benefits of a ghillie suit, and leaves a player without a close combat secondary weapon.

The Cold-Blooded perk is an fantasticc companion to the Stinger, as kill streak vehicles will not directly target the player as they attempt to find an enemy. This also helps with acsessing the Pro version of
Cold-Blooded perk, which gets rid of the red namabove a player and crosshairs from appearing on an enemy's screen when they are looking at the user.

The Stinger's missiles do miss occasionally if the user fires a poor shot at the vehicle, or from a bad location

lol 1 time there was a chopper gunner over my head i had coldblooded anyway i had javelin aiming at the chopper, the jav shoots goes straight up misses the gunner the flares go off then the jav goes crazy and comes straight down to where i was camping....it was the winning kill cam as someone tried to knife me from behind hahaha...
