We wouldn't call them stigmas if they weren't indeed a stigma in the modern day human psyche. Society raises us to remember the stigmas of past in-order to prevent them in the future. This is a very curious way to approach a problem and derive a solution, should we forget racism so that our future generations can be naive of those things and have their innocence. Or should we serve justice by burdening our children with the stigmas of past, alienating them and cause a social self segregation by minorities. Black history, latino history etc. they all input stigmas in our minds promoting the idea that we are different and do not stand united as countrymen but segregated by "race", only thing is that this segregation is self imposed. Maybe educating children on a bleak pass can give them a better perspective on the now, but the grain of salt that most people don't take with them is the fact system of race is a bunch of bs.
Centuries old Western European stereotypes make race, which makes the system of race within itself discriminatory.
Hispanics, despite culture being different and varied amongst Spanish speaking countries, European's have always thought less of the Spanish American colonies and its people so they just heaped them together into one group.
