Question How To Edit / Modify Sounds In CrossFire .REZ Files ??

    Hey forumers =)

I'm looking for a way to disable certain in-game sounds that are in the REZ files.

Just as an example, say I don't want to hear my gun firing or my knife slashing, how can I disable these sounds for my computer only? I don't care if other people hear them in-game.

    PM Me or post here
    Thank you in advance =)

Thank you for your response Troop. But if you can change character's colors and walk through walls and turn off the sky, then there should be a way to stop a few sounds from playing right?

Excuse you but I am far from being a noob. And you obviously didn't read my first post. I'm talking about disabling individual sound effects, like a gun shot or a knife slash, that are in the .REZ files. Not going to the game options and turning the volume down. LMAO

LOL thank you Smile, some people don't read the topic before they post I guess. Yea I figured you could like edit the REZ file somehow and change the value next to the sound you don't want to hear, or something like that lol. I'm not a programmer so I don't know. And I was just using those sounds as an example. Maybe you could turn off the bomb explosion sound or the sound you hear when you fall from a high distance. Just examples.

maybe if u found the good rez file u could ask a good coder here... cuz it might take a while until u find the good one... it might be interesting playing with no gun shot and slash cuz u could hear footsteps better etc... Good Luck with that

Well Ishtar you could make it so that when people fall they make an animal noise lol, but that comes back to the problem of how to edit the sounds in the REZs.

The gun sounds should be located in one of the REZ files, but I am not which sure, and I don't know the exact names/IDs of the sounds. I've done this using Cheat Engine before on Cross Fire, and I think they are located in one of the REZ files. If not, it's in a completely different file.

Lowering the volume will not target a specific sound this will simply disable a component of the sound , I.E Radio Messages / Music ...

All Weapon sounds are embedded within the .REZ files of your Crossfire Folder. In order to manipulate them in any manner (This includes disabling or lowering them) You will need a program which can "Extract" or "Decompress" them into a readable format / Other file extension. After completing this task you must manually edit the file, Meaning you would need a fair to a vast amount of knowledge in Programming Languages And what Specific Inputs or deletions are needed to gain the result you are looking for. Even then, There is only a chance Crossfire would not detect it and Force you to Re-install in order to play properly.

If you do in fact hold the capabilities / resources to accomplish this task, then those are the steps you will need to take. Remember when modifying anything to keep a "Normal .Rez" Back-up.

    Good luck..

P.S : Alen is trying to work with them now - Possibly.
