Install all the latest patches.
Thats pretty much it. The game is broken like hell and it happens to everyone in slightly different ways. Make sure your computer is up to par, and that its at least fairly well maintained and just go with it.

MP Freeze/Crashes
Whenever I play MP for more then 5-20 mins Black Ops freezes and i'm forced to ctrl-alt-delete out, anyone know any fixes for this?
(There might already be a thread for this but I couldn't find any for this specific problem (I used the search function))

try looking at a few of the config topics here, but other than a couple very minor tweaks there really isnt much you can do.
The game wasnt optimized for anything besides the xbox, so us PC gamers get shit on again.

check if you have the latest drivers
my friend had the wrong drivers he had x86
but he needed x64I love it when people keep their agreements /sarcasm ftw

Make sure you have all the required DirectX files installed including the optional ones. Also, make sure you have the latest drivers installed for any possible compatability support or bug fixes for Black Ops either from ATI or NVIDIA. Even installing the latest sound drivers may even help. Refer to your motherboard documentation or device manager window to find the correct model.

I started getting random crashes after some patch. Some people suggest you max anisotropic filtering, but running in windowed mode finally fixed it for me.
