There has to be something more to it.
I've seen stuff loaded with adjustments come out to be great quality.

Its the lighting creating a contrast and you bring out harshness in it. Its not so much what your doing, its how your doing it, if i may be so bold to say. But i'd be happy to help.

The resizing is all to scale so i doubt its that.

Even if you resize to scale, it will still change the quality, no matter how much you sharpen it.
