The steam it's releasing is a desperate attempt to cool it down. It's being created from the heat of the core and the sea water they're using.. >_>;

the salt causes corrosion, and since they cant just shut the plant down and let it cool down they will never be able to get in there and clean it out and weakens the integrity of the barrier between the core and the cooling system, potentially causing small cracks where radioactive materials could leak into the water.

Regardless of if there is a meltdown or an issue with radioactivity getting out into the world, this is the beginning of the end of the world
The economy will never be able to pull its self back from this

Also, the earthquake was caused by a tectonic plate moving the the friction of it hitting another
The San Andreas fault is a MAJOR earthquake zone, which has mysteriously not had an earthquake in many years and is well over-due for one
The plate in Japan is inevitably going to cause other plates to shift at some point, which will cause the San Andreas plate to shift, and so on and so forth



Of course, its not going to be instant armegeddon
We all have to suffer for a while
