PC's are good for shooters, and any game really if you know how to work a keyboard. They have superior graphics, have ready availability to new hardware, and (used to have) a lot more support from developers, and a huge competetive scene. The introduction to console ports has killed off the last two, but PC's still have a big advantage.
Consoles are good for casual gaming. Racing games, platform games, puzzle games, RPG games, stuff that depends less on skill, and more on a community thing. Imo, consoles are tons more fun to sit down and play with your friends in the living room. Even shitty games can become fun when played with some of your friends.
That being said, the current market is being run by microsoft and Activision, with EA actively releasing piles of horrible games, and generally ignoring their player base altogether. inb4battlefeild. This means that games are in a horrible state, and consoles are getting more money, even though the fun factor has been drained form them. Paying $15 for content that was stripped from the game solely to make me pay for it again? No. I have forgotten about games that people are so interested in buying and moved back to playing indie games like I made a game with zombies on XBL with friends.
