    Operating system

    1. Running Warrock with Windows Vista
War Rock will run on Windows Vista normally, but you might have to do a few things in order for it to run.
      1. Go to the Directory that you have installed War Rock into (it's usually in C:\Program Files\Gamersfirst\WarRock).
      2. Find the following .exe files: WRLauncher.exe and WRUpdater.exe and right click on each one then select Properties.
      3. Select the Compatibility tab.
      4. Select "Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows XP (Service Pack 2)".
      5. Select the box "Run this program as an administrator" as well.
      6. Click on OK button to confirm.
      7. Now go to the System directory in the WarRock Directory.
      8. Right click on WarRock.exe and and select Properties.
      9. Select the Compatibility tab. Select "Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows XP (Service Pack 2)".
      10. Then select the box "Run this program as an administrator." Click on OK button to confirm.

    2. Running Warrock with Windows 7
In order to run WarRock on Windows 7 you may have to do the following steps.
      1. Go to the directory that you have installed WarRock in.
      2. Find WRLauncher.exe. Right click on it and then select Properties.
      3. Select the Compatibility tab. Select "Run this program in compatibility mode" and choose one of the Windows XP (Service Pack 2) or Windows Vista service pack. Press OK button.
      4. Then in the system directory find WarRock.exe. Right click on it again and select Properties.
      5. Select the Compatibility tab. Select "Run this program as administrator", but don't select "Run in Compatibility mode."

    3. Running Warrock on 64-bit operating systems
Warrock is already one of older games and was coded and compiled for 32-bit operating systems. 32-bit software working on 64-bit is due to architectural difference a hit-or-miss.
You will probably notice WarRock is slowing down, which seems due to WarRock reverting to only 1 core. To fix that, follow the next steps.
      1. Launch warrock.
      2. Click on the first OK button.
      3. Click on the second OK button.
      4. When you see your HackShield loading up on the lower right corner of your screen, press Ctrl +Alt + Delete to launch the Task manager.
      5. Go to Services/Processes tab and look for WarRock.exe
      6. Right click it and choose Affinity, then check all cores. So if you have dual core check both cores, if you have quad cores, check all four.

    4. Black screen on 64-bit Windows 7
If you're getting black screen when your game starts on WIndows 7, follow the next steps.
      1. Right click the WarRock icon and choose "Troubleshoot Compatibility".
      2. Choose the Recommended option.
      3. Click Next button.
      4. Choose "Try a different configuration".
      5. Check the boxes that say "The program does not display correctly" and "The program requires additional permissions" and click Next button.
      6. Check the box that says "The program changes the visual theme".
      7. Click Next button again.

    5. Cannot start transfer
When you're downloading or installing WarRock in GamersFirst LIVE, the following errors may pop-up:

      Code:
Installer integrity check has failed. Common causes include incomplete download and damaged media. Contact the installer's author to obtain a new copy.
As the message suggests, get a new copy, making sure that your connection is stable and that there are no errors on your hard disk.

      1. Make sure you have no old installer or GamersFirst LIVE! on your system.
      2. Uninstall WarRock.
      3. Remove the WarRock folder from your GamersFirst directory.
      4. Disable your antivirus program.
      5. Download GamersFirst LIVE! and download WarRock again.

    Issues on launch

    1. Cannot input login data
1.Tap the Windows Key + D button to go to desktop without closing WarRock. Click once anywhere as long it's not on an icon.
      2. Click Alt + Tab to get back into WarRock. You should be able to type your password and nickname in.

    2. Cannot get version.txt
If you get the "Cannot get version.txt" error, then this usually means that the game is being blocked from connecting to the patch/game server. The number 1 cause of this issue is that any security or antivirus software that you have installed is not allowing the following WarRock programs access to the internet.

      WRLauncher.exe
      WRUpdater.exe
      Warrock.exe

To fix this you should open your antivirus program or security software and allow these three programs full access to connect to the internet. Most antivirus and security programs have a way to manually add these to a list of allowed programs and you will have to consult the User Manual for the particular software you have have installed in order to figure out how best to add programs to the list.
If making this exceptions doesn't seem to work (make sure to add all 3 programs, and if you can, the whole WarRock folder and servers) simply uninstall your antivirus and firewall temporarily.

Additional: Try rebooting your router/modem. This can be done by plugging them out and leave power off for around 20 seconds. Put the cable back in and restart WarRock.

    3. Cannot get a file pf_X_X.zip
Something may be blocking connection or your files are corrupted. Make sure that no firewall/security system/router/antivirus is blocking your connection. If nothing is blocking connection then repatch the game, or even better - reinstall it.
Make sure you have administrator rights and privileges as well.

Additional: Try rebooting your router/modem. This can be done by plugging them out and leave power off for around 20 seconds. Put the cable back in and restart WarRock.

    4. Cannot extract sub*.zip
      1. Go to WarRock directory (C:\Program Files\GamersFirst\WarRock).
      2. Look for the sub*.zip (with * is being a number), right click it and select "Extract all here".
      3. If that doesn't work, then delete the sub*.zip/version.cfg file, causing the problem. This should make WarRock re-patch itself again. Make sure that your antivirus/firewall are both disabled or the problem may repeat itself.

    5. Cannot extract a .zip file
Right click on a WarRock icon, select Compatibility tab and check "Run this program as an administrator".

      Additional:
Make a new user on your computer (Start > Control Panel > Users > Add user acocunt).
You can probably launch, update and play from the new user and perhaps even launch and play from your regular user.

    6. Game is not starting after pressing OK button twice
Check whether there is maintenance going on. There should be an announcement on G1 official forums in General Discussion, if servers seem to be up nevertheless.

      1. Disable any kind of antivirus that may be blocking WarRock.
      2. Manually update HackShield.
      • Go to C:\Program Files\Gamers First\WarRock\Data\HShield\Update.
      • Then right click on "Autoupprogram" and run it as administrator.
      • Then, when the window pops-up, click "Start Update". This will manually update your HackShield.
      • Once done, simply start WarRock, let it patch and play.

      Aditional 1:
Try rebooting your router/modem. This can be done by plugging them out and leave power off for around 20 seconds. Put the cable back in and restart WarRock.

      Aditional 2:
      Flush your DNS;
Open the Command prompt and type the following after C:>:"ipconfig/flushdns".

      Aditional 3:
      Reset your hosts file;
      1. Click Start, click Run, type "%systemroot% \system32\drivers\etc", and then click OK. (64 bit version of Windows, type "%systemroot% \SysWOW64\drivers\etc"), or simple go to C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc.
      2. Rename the hosts file to "hosts.bak".
      3. Create the new default hosts file. To do this, follow these steps:
      • Right click and open space in the %WinDir%\system32\drivers\etc folder, point to New, click Text Document, type "hosts", and then press Enter button.
      • Click Yes to confirm that the file name extension will not be .txt.
      • Open the new created hosts file in a text editor, for example, in Notepad and copy the following text to the file:
        • Windows XP:
          Code:

    1. Avast Home 4.8
Set an exception for the virus scanner.
      1. Simply click on “Settings” in the options menu then on "Exclusions".
      2. Click Browse button and then check the folder to be excluded. Alternatively, click "Add" and manually type the location of the WarRock folder (C:\Program Files\GamersFirst\WarRock) into the Exclusions box.
      3. Add "\*" to the end of the folder name (C:\Program Files\GamersFirst\WarRock\*).
      4. Click on OK button to confirm.

If Avast already vaulted files in the "chest", follow steps, listed below.
      1. Open the Virus Chest directly from the options menu.
      2. Select and right click on the WR files (WRupdater.exe, WRlauncher.exe, Warrock.exe).
      3. Select "Restore File".

    2. Avast 5.0
      1. Click the Avast icon on right corner at the bottom.
      2. Go to Real-Time-Shields tab and click File system Shield.
      3. Click Expert settings.
      4. Now click Exclusions.
      5. Click Add and a new path has been added. Now click Browse and find your WarRock folder.
      6. Once you find the WarRock folder, tick the little square next to the folder and click OK button.
If you chose default settings when you installed WarRock, it will be located in C:\Program Files\WarRock
      7. Click ok
      8. Reboot your computer and try to run WarRock again. It should work. If it doesn't work Avast ain't the issue ...

    3. AVG 8.5
AVG pops up a screen saying it found a threat in WarRock.
If you select "Heal" you will delete "WRUpdater.exe" giving consecutive "Cannot find execute file" errors.
Same for "Vault", so it's best to select "Ignore".
Yet, if you did select "Heal" or "Vault", AVG will have moved WRUpdater.exe in a vault, resulting in execute file errors.

First, put WRUpdater.exe back where it belongs:
      1. Open AVG user interface.
      2. Select History > Virus Vault > select WarRock in "Path to..."
      3. Hit Restore and button Yes.

Then, make exceptions for both resident shield (Pup) and directory exclude (Path) resident shield.
      1. Open AVG User Interface.
      2. Select Tools > Advanced Settings > Pup Exceptions
      3. Add an exception
      4. Click the "..." right of File > Browse to your WarRock folder and add both WRUpdater.exe and WRLauncher.exe as exceptions by selecting and adding them one by one.

      Directory include.
      1. Open AVG User Interface.
      2. Go to Tools > Advanced Settings > Resident Shield > Exceptions.
      3. Add Path > Browse to WarRock folder, select it and click OK.
      4. Click Apply.

    4. AVG 9
When launching WarRock you ususally get an error with the following text:

      Code:
ERROR: Cannot launch child process (code5)
      And/Or

      Code:
      "Threat detected" win32/themida
You may not see this screen if you have already set your AVG to automatically, either delete or vault threat. If you already have selected "Ignore", jump to second step.

      Step 1:

    1. Unregistered user/Invalid password
If you are receiving either of these messages, follow the next steps.
      1. Go to Control Panel > Regional and language options.
      2. Make sure that your language is set to English in the regional options tab.
      3. In the languages tab, make sure the two boxes in the bottom part are not checked.
      4. In the advanced tab, where it says what language you want non-unicode programs to use, select English.

If you are one of the players that are getting the error "Unregistered User" when you log in and you have checked on GamersFirst and the account is not banned then it is probably because you have a out of date WRLauncher.exe and WRUpdater.exe. Get the newest installer from GamersFirst LIVE!
Accounts suspected of being being scammed have their password changed. Log in to GamersFirst and do a password change, an authentication will be sent to the email that was used to create that account.

      2. Make sure your antivirus or firewall isn't blocking WarRock from accessing your computer, you'll need to add WarRock to your exceptions list.
3a. This is where it gets difficult, it could be that your ISP assigned you an incorrect IP address, that is posting from the wrong region. If the above two solutions don't work for you, then click here to get your IP address and check the geo-location (IP address longitude latitude). If it's showing from a non-supported region, then call up your ISP support and ask them to change it.
3b. If the above solutions didn't work, then it means you have an IP that's less than 60 days old, K2 only updates their list of IP addresses every 2 months, so call your ISP and ask them to assign you an older one.

    Other issues

    1. Graphic artifact issues
      What are graphical artifact issues?
      • Black screens
      • White screens
      • Odd textures/colours

      Why are you getting them?
      1. Insufficient hardware; since the update to Directx 9c, older cards like nVidia MX440, who do not fully support all feartures of Directx 9c will give black screens, Intel integrated cards may give white blocks.
      2. Malfunctioning hardware; a broken fan may cause overheating.
      3. Driver problems; errors happen, both in WarRock and in the driver.
      4. Incorrect settings.
      5. Badly optimized graphics engines.

      How to fix them?
      1. Reduce graphics quality
Reducing the graphics quality will often reduce this problem if not remove it completely. Also try reducing texture quality and resolutions.
      2. Check if your graphics card is overheating.
This should be one of the first thing to check when experiencing these problems. Clean any fans and dust and ensure a sufficient supply of air. A lot of stock cooling systems are not sufficient for the graphics cards being manufactured these days, so, if you have any hardware experience you might consider upgrading it with a good cooling system.
      3. Power
Low power will cause law amperage which will make your hardware malfunction. Check the amperage and voltage on your graphics card. Modern graphics cards require a lot of power. Check the lebel on your power supply unit inside your PC. If its in the 200-300W range then thats your problem. If you have a graphics card that is not older than 2 years, you should consider getting a 500W+ power supply. Having a lot of Hard Drives or DVD drives would allso effect the performance. Seems that computer stores like to sell high end computers but put in a small power supply to save a few bucks. This will not only cause hardware problems but will also burn out your power suply unit in a year.
      4. Graphics drivers
Change your graphics drivers. Newer is not allways better. Google stuff about your graphics card and recomendations on drivers. Some cards work better on older drivers that were written at the time the card was made. Experiment. Use a driver cleaner after uninstaling a driver and before installing a new one to completely remove it.
      5. Reconnect
This seems to work for me and works in some games. For example in Warrock > When waiting to spawn, look around. If you see any graphics problems like the artifacts on the screens then leave the room and join again. Your graphics card should load up everything on the 2nd (sometimes 3rd) load. Of course this might not work for everyone since I doubt we have the same hardware but its a simple solution that only takes 10 seconds.

      Additional Solutions:
      1. Insufficient RAM memory. Most computers these days would require at least 1 GB of RAM to run efficiently, and it can be the cause of graphics problems. Upgrade your RAM.
      2. Motherboard (MOBO) Problem. MOBO can sometimes be the cause of the graphics cards not being able to work properly. Its possible there is a driver conflict or that some cards just dont go well with certain MOBOs. Update your MOBO and BIOS drivers.
      3. BIOS tweeks. Switch "AGP fast writes" off, set your apeture size to 256, or 128. For newer BIOSes, designed to run MS Vista, you should also disable Sideband Addressing. For those that are not familiar with BIOS (Basic Input Output System) here is a quick guide: restart, press F2 to get into BIOS, find chipset settings and scroll down then change the mentioned values. Save and restart. This can help in certain cases and is safe to change but its not recomended to change anything else in BIOS or your computer might stop working and you will need to clear CMOS.
      4. Disable write combining. You do that by right clicking on desktop then going to Properties > Settings > Advanced > Troubleshoot and unchecking the box. You can also reduce hardware acceleration. This worked for me.
      5. Check the connection. It could also be that the connection between the card and the motherboard socket isnt good. Make sure you don't put too much side tension on the card when screwing it onto the computer case. Also try cleaning the pins with cleaning alcohol.
      6. Download details: DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer. If, for whatever reason, you dont have the latest DirectX update it along with your graphics drivers.

Some graphic cards, especially on-board graphics just don't play nice with WarRock. in most cases driver or directx updates fix this, in other cases it can be construction faults (yes nVidia, looking at you) or some dark conspiracy against you.

    2. Gun lag
      1. Try changing your game resolution in the options; lowering color from 32 > 16 bit, lower resolution ...
      2. Defrag your computer. Windows has defrag software built in Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Defrag.
      3. Defrag and/or move your pagefile: https://download.sysinternals.com/Files/PageDefrag.zip or move the page file to another physical disk (not partition).

      1. Log on to the computer as Administrator.
      2. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
      3. Click Performance and Maintenance, and then click System.
      4. Click the Advanced tab, and then under Performance, click Settings.
      5. Click the Advanced tab, and then under Virtual memory, click Change.
      6. In the Drive [Volume Label] list, click a drive other than the one on which Windows is installed (Windows is usually installed on the drive C). Under Total paging file size for all drives, note the value that is displayed next to Recommended.
      7. Click Custom size, and then type the recommended value in the Initial size (MB) box.
      8. Type the maximum size that you want to allow for paging in the Maximum size (MB) box, and then click Set.
      9. In the Drive [Volume Label] box, click the drive on which Windows is installed (usually the drive C), and then use one of the following steps:

      • If you do not want a paging file on the drive, click No paging file, and then click Set. A message similar to the following message appears:
If the pagefile on volume C: has an initial size of less than 126 mega.bytes, then the system may not be able to create a debugging information file if a STOP error occurs.
        Continue anyway?
        Click Yes.
      • If you want to keep the minimum size of the paging file on the drive, click Custom size, and then type a value that is equal to or greater than the amount of RAM in the computer in the Initial size (MB) box. Type that same value in the Maximum size (MB) box, and then click Set.
        The following message appears:
The changes you have made require you to restart your computer before they can take effect.
Click OK, click OK, click OK, and then click Yes when you are prompted to restart the computer.

    3. Sound issue
In game sounds seems off. If checking connections and reinstalling soundcard drivers dows not work. Beware you may have to get the Virtual Audio Cable Home Page, which is not a free application. User discretion may also be advised regarding security issues with unknown software.

      1. Install and run the application.
      2. Set all settings https://img30.imageshack.us/img30/6538/tut1w.jpg.
      3. After restarting, go to: Start > Systemconfig/Control Panel > Sounds > Audio.
      4. Now change the default device https://img529.imageshack.us/img529/9791/tut2f.jpg to the https://img529.imageshack.us/img529/8903/tut3.jpg
      5. Click OK button and restart WarRock.

    4. Many/all players have 999 ping
      1. If playing on wireless lan:
        • Try it using a ethernet cable (its better for gaming anyway - wlan latency degrades if your mother is using the microwave).
        • If using WLAN is your only option you may want to opt/upgrade to a multi-band n-standard which is not just faster but often more stable.

      2. Configure your personal desktop Firewall to allow warrock.(exe) all out- and incoming traffic.
        • Allow "act as server" "allow incoming traffic" - if asked by certain firewall products.
        • Add WarRock as a trusted Firewall exception.

      3. Check the routers configuration.
        • How to login to your routers webinterface see the routers manual.
        • Disable any build in Firewalls of routers if enabled (usually not by default).
Routers make your home PC a little more secure by design. Your PC is not directly connected to the internet. These additional router-firewalls prevent the sending of data by potential malware on your home pc into internet using unusual ports. And so do they with parts of the warrock traffic.

      4. Update your NIC (network card) drivers. Head for the support pages of the PC-brand or mobo-maker.

    5. Blue Screen of Death
Not quite a fix as there are different possible reasons and therefore fixes. Still the following tool will help on pinpointing the reasons/cause; Blue screen of death (STOP error) information in dump files. as this application will look into the minidump and give details about the cause. This should help you with Googling fixes.

      Obviously, it is important to have your system to make minidumps automatically. To do so, do;
      • Right click on "My Computer", select Properties.
      • Click the Advanced tab, at "Startup and recovery" box select settings.
      • Select "Small memory dump" in the "Write debugging information" box.
      • Click OK button twice.

    6. Error 10104
Error 10104 seems to point to a macro being detected. This is a false positive by anti-hack code.
      Possible sources;
      • Gamebooster (though that is mostly causing a 10501-error).
      • Macro-enabling drivers for mouse/keyboard (programmable keys).
      • Notebooks often have custom "quick buttons" to launch certain programs.
      • Keys that are bound to other programs (for instance the mouse wheel assigned to ventrilo Microphone).
      • Some slower connections may also trigger this error as commands may get jumbled or combined when packets catch up.

Disable any macro-functions or non-needed software, try changing key-bindings (better to switch them off).

    7. Error 10501
HackShield is picking up code that is on a blacklist (Undefined hacks (0x100073d)). In most cases this is caused by GameBooster (and similar software). Another culprit seems to be "ProcessExplore".

      Other solutions I've seen for other games;
      • Issues with Data Execution Prevention (aka DEP);
If you're on Vista, go to Advanced tab, Performance settings button, then the DEP tab.
Turn On DEP, and click Add. Navigate to HSUpdate.exe and add it.
If this doesn't work, do the same for ;WRLauncher.exe, WRUpdater.exe and WarRock.exe.
      • Update/reinstall DirectX 9.

    8. CRC checksum errors
CRC errors down to an error while downloading or writing away file data on your PC. The best fix seems to be reinstalling. You may want to run a scandisk/checkdisk and a defrag to make sure you have nice smooth pristine HDD estate to save WarRock files on.

    9. NSIS_Error
      When downloading/installing WarRock in GamersFirst LIVE! the following error may pop-up;

      Code:
Installer integrity check has failed. Common auses include incomplete download and damaged media. Contact the installer's author to obtain a new copy.
      https://nsis.sourceforge.net/Why_do_I_get_NSIS_Error
If you are confident and verify that the installer is indeed valid and in good condition, but still encounter the NSIS Error dialog box and stop halt and fail the installation, then another possible reason for NSIS error to appear is problematic network connectivity, either due to faulty network card, or Internet or LAN connection to upload, download and transfer files been blocked or restricted.

Network adapter failure is unlikely to be a common cause, unless you have problem surfing or downloading the file too. So, the resolution to NSIS Error can come down to simply checking if there is any firewall or other security software running on the computer that causing the NSIS Error.

One possible candidate is Windows Firewall which exists in Windows XP and later operating system such as Windows 2003, 2008 and Windows Vista. The solution is to disable the Windows Firewall and run the installer again.

Other reported problem maker that trigger NSIS Error include integrated nVidia NIC (network interface card) that includes a Firewall. In this case, user have to change the network adapter to one without firewall or switch to wireless network temporarily to get the installer installed, as disabling the network card will still cause NSIS Error.

    10. ERROR: Cannot find execute File!
Often preceded by your antivirus flagging HS or WR as having a Trojan and even deleting and/or putting WarRock in quarantine. Many antiviruses have been detecting the WRupdater/execute file as a False-Positive and have deleted it without notice. You will need to restore the file and start WarRock up with your Antivirus turned off.

      If you're certain WarRock is already on exception or that your antivirus is off, but WarRock does not seem to start after clicking ok twice;
      • Retry, it often launches on the second try. for some people a simple reboot seems to work so try that too.
      • Could be the update severs' IP have changed; flush your DNS; Open the command prompt and type the following: ipconfig /flushdns.
      • Rest your modem/router.

If you cannot find out where the file has been quarantined or you are unsure on how to restore it, you can simply uninstall and delete the WarRock folder and then reinstall. On your next start up make sure your Antivirus is turned off. Here again, remember to run as administrator or at least with administrator rights!

      Please refer to following tutorials regarding antivirus software. For antivirus not mentioned please use the help function of your application, the phone or internet support provided. The basic points are;
      • Antivirus will delete (partially or completely) WarRock files or move them to a vault/virus chest.
      • If your antivirushas already deleted or vaulted code, switching off the antivirus will not help, you will need to reinstall it.
      • To make sure your antivirus does not delete/vault after an update set exceptions for the scanner so the antivirus does not scan WarRock related folders.
      • WarRock files that are targeted by antivirus; WRLauncher, WRUpdater and WarRock.
