Weather and pistons [1.5]

In a post on his tumblr, notch mentioned that Progress for stats and achievements have slowed thanks to issues with JSON. (Link)

But what he also mentioned, is that the return of weather (Rain was a feature in classic by pressing F5, but is not in Beta even though the sprite exists, and snow was removed with the addition of Biomes) and the inclusion of thunderstorms and lightning. Notch said he is almost done with lightning, meaning weather may have some negative effects to it. Maybe lightning will strike and damage certain things. But if it does that, or tries to catch on fire then it may just make building things impossible. But with rain being added back in, it will also come with effects on the environment this time around, including accumulation of snow/ice, putting out fire, filling up holes, and increasing the likelihood of catching fish. Snow will also regenerate snow on blocks in the snow biomes.

Weather is also going to block out sun/moon, and become slightly darker outside. This is going to add even more danger to it.

Another update that notch talks about is the addition of Pistons.

This is a mod made on the forums (Link) and will let players push blocks around. He has not said if any changes will be made to the mod, such as more blocks not being able to be pushed, or restrictions on how/what it can push.

Iunno why I forgot to add this, as its kind of a big deal, but Minecrafts official release date (when it moves out of beta) has now been set for 11/11/11, which is the same release date as Skyrim. Notch says that nothing much will change, and the game will be subject to its constant updates and new features, but the game will just not have its beta tag anymore.

Frankly, Im worried about lightning, as it might have the risk of catching things on fire, and I just got done with a house made of wool. I hope there is an option to disable weather, because that would be great. Realism for my legit world, and safety for my build world.

The piston mod works with 1.4_01 just fine. You have to downlaod it off the forums.

I hope it isnt nearly as active as it was in that video. I would not be very inclined to play at all. I still hope there is an option to turn weather effects off though.

Im more worried about lightning. Look at about :49 in the weather video on the beach towards the back right. You can see lightning strike and start some fire. I just have a bad feeling about that.

Its confirmed in the original mod that you cant push other pistons.
